We are busy trying to improve the grass surface and remove weeds
and considering design options for the park.
Set between the sites of the Castle Hills Earthworks and the Bishop's Palace, Castle Hills Park is central to the history of Northallerton.
We intend to work closely with local groups to feature these sites on our walking circuit, with artist impressions of what they may have looked like if they were here today.
Prior to the introduction of the railways historians tell us that Northallerton was recognised by the Castle Hills Earthworks.
For the local population the earthworks provided excellent defence from any aggressor.
Evidence suggests the Romans and Normans used the site that was later turned into a Moat and Bailey fortification.
We intend to create a viewing point from our walking circuit (Planned to open 2024)and will attempt to help visitors visualise what it might have looked like if it were still here today.
The Bishop of Durham held great favour with the Crown in the Middle Ages.
The Palace at Northallerton was moated and considered one of the finest houses in the North and hence became a stopover for Royalty travelling to and from Scotland.
We intend to create a viewing point from our walking circuit (planned to open 2024) and will attempt to help visitors visualise what it might of looked like if it were still standing today.
